Prayer scroll, ca. 1850.

Ethiopian prayer of magic scroll written in Geez, the liturgical language of Ethiopia. The scroll is written on three strips of parchment sewn together with a thong tie. The scroll is typical of the 19th century form and contains two large paintings in ink of a guardian angel at the head of the scroll and Saint George at the middle of the text. The text is in black with rubrication.
